Michael Porter (麥可‧波特, Harvard Business School 教授) 提出「五力競爭架構」 (five forces of competition framework, 又稱為「五力分析」), 說明「產業的獲利能力」取決於「五種競爭壓力」, 包含水平的競爭: 來自 substitutes, potential entrants, existing firms 的競爭, 以及垂直的競爭: suppliers 及 buyers 的議價能力.
